Pirates steal a wild one

The Pittsburgh Pirates scored 3 runs in the 9th to force extras before winning it, 7-6.  This was a wild game that saw a lot of drama.  The Forbes Field faithful were treated to quite a game on this Sunday afternoon.  Lloyd Waner finished 4-for-5, and Tommy Thevenow was also 4-for-5.  On the Dodgers side of things, Al Lopez was 4-for-5, and Danny Taylor 3-for-4.

The Dodgers scored 3 runs in the 8th to tie the game 3-3.  Al Lopez doubled to start out the inning, then after an out was recorded, pinch hitter Len Koenecke walked.  Buzz Boyle struck out.  Then, Jimmy Jordan hit a 2-run triple.  The next batter, Danny Taylor, singled him home.  The Dodgers would go up 6-3 in the top of the 9th.  Johnny Frederick walked, then Al Lopez doubled.  Glenn Chapman popped out.  Then Joe Stripp hit a 2-run double.  Buzz Boyle flied out, then Jimmy Jordan hit an RBI double.  Other batters reached this inning but that was all the scoring.  But in the bottom of the 9th, Pittsburgh struck back.  Lloyd Waner singled, then Paul Waner singled + an error on Tony Cuccinello.  Fred Lindstrom singled, plating 1, then Arky Vaughan hit a sacrifice fly to score another.  After a force out, Pie Traynor singled to put runners at the corners.  Then, Tommy Thevenow singled to score the final run.

The Pirates won it in the 11th.  The Dodgers did not threaten in extra innings.  In the bottom of the 11th, Arky Vaughan singled and reached 2nd on a passed ball.  Gus Suhr then singled for the walk-off win.
