Dodgers claw back, beat Pirates

The Dodgers found themselves down early, but they didn't give up and were able to claw out a 7-3 win.  The Dodgers had a big, 6-run 7th inning that helped pull it off.  Buzz Boyle and Al Lopez had 4-hit games, and Van Mungo went the distance to improve to 16-13.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead with a run in the 2nd.  Pie Traynor singled and reached 2nd on a sac bunt.  Then, Tommy Thevenow singled him home.  The Pirates added a run in the 4th.  Catcher Earl Grace doubled to lead off the inning and was promptly knocked home by the next batter, Pie Traynor.

But the Dodgers had their big 7th inning.  Jim Bucher led off with a walk; he reached 2nd on a stolen base and got to third on the errant throw by the catcher.  Then, Van Mungo walked, Buzz Boyle singled, plating 1 run.  Glenn Chapman struck out.  Then Len Koenecke hit a big 2-run double to make it 3-2, Brooklyn.  After an out was recorded, Joe Stripp hit an RBI single, then Johnny Frederick singled, then Al Lopez hit an RBI single.  Jim Bucher then singled home the last run.

The Pirates added a run in their 7th.  In the 9th, the Dodgers added 1.  Johnny Frederick led off with a triple, then Al Lopez doubled him home.  In the bottom of the 9th, Fred Lindstrom reached on an error by shortstop Joe Stripp.  Then, after a force play, Paul Waner singled.  Next up was Arky Vaughan but he grounded into a double play.
