Paul Dean completes it in win over Dodgers

Cardinals starter Paul Dean pitched a complete game today, propelling the Cardinals to victory over the Dodgers, 3-1.  Pepper Martin finished 1-for-4 with a big, 2-run home run.  That home run was really the pivotal event in the game.  The Dodgers added a run late, in the 8th, but the Cardinals responded in the 9th.  The Dodgers went quietly in their half of the 9th.

Boom-Boom Beck got the start for the Dodgers.  He mostly pitched well outside of the Martin home run.  Beck allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs.  The Cardinals pounded out 7 hits off of him and had 11 hits total to the Dodgers' 7.

A mammoth, capacity crowd saw this one today at Ebbets Field.  The Dodgers stranded 4 on base and finished just 2-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
