Dodgers back at .500 after win against Cardinals

Van Mungo blanked the Cardinals today, pitching a complete game shutout and earning the win for Brooklyn.  Mungo was deceptive all game; he allowed just 5 hits and struck out 4 to lower his ERA to 2.76 (now tied for 3rd in the league in ERA with Dizzy Dean).  Tex Carleton was tagged for the loss for the Cardinals.  He was the opposite of Mungo, yielding 7 runs over 8 innings.  He allowed home runs to Johnny Frederick and Tony Cuccinello.

The Dodgers had a pair of innings where they scored 3 runs.  In the 3rd inning, Len Koenecke hit a bases loaded single to score 2 runs.  Sam Leslie followed that up with an RBI double.  In the 5th, Tony Cuccinello plated 2 of the 3 runs that inning by smacking his 12th home run of the season.

The Dodgers were last at .500 on August 16 when they were 57-57.  Unfortunately, they remain 20 games out of the division.  Pittsburgh has won 8 of their last 10 and it's only a matter of time before they win the pennant.
