Gabby Hartnett smashes 2 home runs in win over Dodgers

Gabby Hartnett finished 3-for-4 with 2 big solo home runs in today's win against Brooklyn.  He was a thorn in the side of the Dodgers all game long; he smashed a 'big fly' in the 5th, and another one in the 7th.  He now leads catchers with 18 home runs.  The Dodgers lost this one today, 4-1.  Ray Benge got the start for Brooklyn and he pitched just okay.  He went 6 innings and allowed 3 earned runs.

The big inning for the Cubs was the 5th.  After Ki-Ki Cuyler flied out, Hartnett hit his bomb.  Then Charlie Grimm singled, Billy Jurges singled, and, after a fielder's choice, Billy Herman hit a big 2-run triple.  The Dodgers offense, which has been a bit quiet recently, managed 12 hits to Chicago's 9.  But the Dodgers were just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and simply couldn't get a key hit.

Johnny Frederick, Lonny Frey, and Len Koenecke all had 2-hit games at the top of the order.  But Chicago starter Buzz Tinning held them at bay over 7.2 innings.
