Bill Lee shuts out Dodgers in fine performance

Cubs' starter Bill Lee pitched a complete game shutout and Babe Herman hit 2 home runs, as the Cubs defeated the Dodgers today at Ebbets Field, 8-0.  Bill Lee was in control the whole time; he allowed just 4 hits (all singles) over 9 innings.  His ERA now stands at an impressive 2.42.

The Cubs jumped all over the Dodgers in the 3rd inning, utilizing 5 hits to score 5 runs.  Bill Lee led off the inning with a walk, then Stan Hack reached 2nd on a 2-base error from Al Lopez.  With runners on 2nd and 3rd, Augie Galan flied out.  Chuck Klein then singled the 2 runners home.  Then, Babe Herman hit a towering 2-run home run.  After a fly out, Gabby Hartnett hit a home run for the final run of the inning.

The Cubs added 3 in the 4th.  Babe Herman hit his 2nd home run of the game.  The Dodgers have now been shut out 10 times this season.  They will look to improve on their record as this series continues.
