The Dodgers won the final 2 games of this 4-game series at Forbes Field, and now sit at 59-60. Johnny Frederick was the star hitter of this one; he finished 4-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Once again, the Dodgers trailed early, and once again they fought back to win this game. Pittsburgh is a very tough foe and the Dodgers must feel fortunate to leave town with a split.
The Dodgers were trailing 4-3 when they batted in the 9th. Al Lopez singled to start off the inning. Then, pinch hitter Len Koenecke fouled out. Buzz Boyle walked, ten Johnny Frederick hit a big 2-run double. After an out was recorded, Sam Leslie walked, then Tony Cuccinello singled in another run.
The Pirates were able to get the tying run to the plate with 2 outs in the 9th, but hitter Gus Suhr fouled out to end the game. Charlie Perkins gets the win in relief and Ownie Carroll gets the save.
