Dodgers walk it off with 2 in the 9th

The Dodgers and Cardinals played to a series split this week with Brooklyn winning the finale today in walk-off fashion, 8-7.  Brooklyn came up with the deciding runs in the bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Glenn Chapman hit a big clutch home run to tie the game at 7.  Al Lopez was next up (Lopez finished 5-for-5 in the game) and he tripled.  Cardinals pitcher Jim Mooney let loose a wild pitch to give Brooklyn the victory.  This was a particularly fun game as the lead changed 5 times.

Neither starter pitched well, and it ended up being a battle of the bullpens.  Art Herring started and pitched just 4 innings, allowing 7 hits and 6 earned runs.  Bill Hallahan, starter for St. Louis, was touched for 6 runs (3 earned) in 7 innings.  The Brooklyn bullpen did allow a late run in the 9th, but St. Louis' bullpen was hit for 2 runs.  Al Lopez performed so well today.  The catcher had 3 RBI's to go with his 5 hits.  Len Koenecke hit his 43rd double of the season in the effort.

The Dodgers now welcome in the lowly Cincinnati Reds.
