Dodgers beat Reds in series opener

Van Mungo pitched a stellar game today in front of 13,465 at Ebbets Field, clinching the 3-0 win.  Mungo allowed just 2 hits over 8 innings and struck out 7.  Unfortunately, he was injured in the 8th and had to come out of the game.  He will miss the next 4 games.  Today's win is Mungo's 18th win of the season.

The Dodgers scored all 3 of their runs in the 4th inning.  Sam Leslie walked to start off the inning, then Tony Cuccinello doubled to put runners at 2nd and 3rd.  Next up was Johnny Frederick who plated both runs with a double to right center.  After a ground out from Jimmy Jordan moved the runner to 3rd, Ray Berres hit a big sac fly for the final run.   Cuccinello had 2 doubles in the game to make him the only batter in the lineup with multiple hits.  The Dodgers had 8 hits in total in the game.

Don Brennan was the starter for Cincinnati.  He pitched okay: 3 earned runs and 6 hits allowed over 5 innings.  The Reds' record now drops to 46-88 - worst in the league.
