Dodgers take series over Giants

Ray Benge went the distance allowing just 1 earned run and Lonny Frey smashed his 5th home run of the season as the Dodgers edge out the Giants in this game, 5-1.  Hal Schumacher picks up the loss for New York; he pitched 8 innings and allowed 4 earned runs.  With the win for Brooklyn the Giants fall another game back of Pittsburgh since the Pirates won tonight in Cincinnati.  The Pirates are in prime territory to take the pennant.

The Dodgers jumped out to a 2-run lead in the 2nd inning.  Tony Cuccinello walked, then Johnny Frederick walked.  Jimmy Jordan singled to load the bases.  Then Al Lopez and Ray Benge produced back-to-back RBI ground outs.  The Dodgers added 2 more in the 3rd.  Lonny Frey led off the inning with a big home run.  Then, Danny Taylor walked; he reached 2nd on a stolen base and 3rd on the errant throw from the catcher.  After a couple outs were recorded, Taylor scored on a wild pitch.

The Dodgers left 5 on base in the game while the Giants left 9.  Congratulations on a series win for Brooklyn!
