Dodgers salvage one, win the finale vs. Pittsburgh

The Dodgers were able to win the final game of this tough series against the Pirates, 6-2.  Ray Benge got the start for Brooklyn and he pitched well, going 7.2 innings and allowing just 2 earned runs.  Dutch Leonard picked up his 5th save.  With the win, the Dodgers improve to 74-73.

The Dodgers added 3 runs in the 3rd inning to make it 3-0.  After a fly out, Lonny Frey singled, then Danny Taylor doubled.  Len Koenecke then slapped a base hit to score 1.  A walk loaded the bases, then Johnny McCarthy hit an RBI single.  Al Lopez produced the final run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Dodgers had 10 hits in the game; Danny Taylor and Al Lopez had 2-hit games.  Arky Vaughan picked up his 52nd double of the year for Pittsburgh.  Pittsburgh had more hits than Brooklyn, but the Bums left fewer on base and hit slightly better in the clutch.
