Dodgers get past Phillies, 5-3

On a warm, late-summer day at Ebbets Field, the Dodgers came out on top today against the Phillies, 5-3.  Sam Leslie finished 2-for-4 with a big, late-inning home run that secured the victory for Brooklyn.  The Dodgers pounded out 11 hits in the game, with Taylor, Leslie, and Sukeforth (who came into the game after Al Lopez was injured) having 2-hit games.  This game was tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 8th.

In the bottom of the 8th, Len Koenecke led off with a walk.  Then, Sam Leslie stepped up to the dish, and he hit an absolute bomb to straight away center for his 8th home run of the year.  The Dodgers also had a 3-run inning in the 4th.  In that frame, the Dodgers strung together 4 consecutive singles (Leslie, Cuccinello, Stripp, Sukeforth) and 5 hits total for a nice 3-run inning.

"I tell ya' we're finishin' strong," Manager Williams said.  "I like a team who's out of it in the standings but still continues to show up everyday to play their hearts out.  We might have some tough seasons coming up here in Brookly, but I promise ya: we'll always give it our best."
