Dodgers man handled at The Polo Grounds

The New York Giants dominated the Dodgers in the penultimate game of the season, winning this one decisively, 13-4.  The Dodgers managed just one hit going into the 9th inning; they singled 4 times in the 9th, but it wasn't nearly enough to overcome the lead the Giants established.  Giants starter Freddy Fitzsimmons was excellent in this game; he had a no-hitter into the 6th.  He did, however, allow 6 walks.  George Watkins was the hitting star for New York.  He went 3-for-5 with a home run.  Jo-Jo Moore also had a good game for the Giants.  He finished 4-for-5.  Mel Ott got a couple of hits to move his batting average up to .373.

The Giants plated 7 runs in the 4th inning.  After an error was committed, Gus Mancuso slammed a big 2-run home run.  Then, Freddy Fitzsimmons reached on an error, Jo-Jo Moore singled.  Hugh Critz popped out, then Bill Terry walked.  With the bases loaded, Mel Ott hit a single to add 2 more runs.  Travis Jackson struck out, then George Watkins doubled to plate 2 runs, then Blondy Ryan singled and Gus Mancuso singled.  Freddy Fitzsimmons struck out to end the inning.

Really, it was 'all Giants, all game,' as they took this one easily.  The Dodgers will need to win the final game of the season to finish with a .500 record.
