Cardinals get the walk-off win in a thriller

Rip Collins, who has been extremely hot recently, hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th inning today, clinching the 6-5 win for the Cardinals over the Dodgers.  This was a game the Dodgers gave away; they were leading 3-0 in the 1st inning, and 5-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, but the Cardinals tied it in that inning and went on to win the game.

The Dodgers got off to a hot start.  Len Koenecke walked, then Lonny Frey walked, Danny Taylor singled to load the bases.  Sam Leslie then doubled in 2 runs.  Joe Stripp walked, but Tony Cuccinello hit into a big double play that produced a run, but cost the Dodgers in the long-term.  The Cardinals would score 4 runs to take the lead in the 4th inning.  Joe Medwick doubled, then Rip Collins hit a single, plating Medwick.  Spud Davis then singled, then Leo Durocher singled, scoring a run.  After Ernie Orsatti flied out, pitcher Bill Hallan put down a sac bunt.  Jack Rothrock then singled 2 runners home.  But the Dodgers would take the lead with 2 runs in the 5th.  After an out was recorded, Sam Leslie singled, then Joe Stripp singled, then Tony Cuccinello singled to load the bases.  Buzz Boyle then hit a 2-run double.  Ray Berres and Ray Benge then both grounded out, ruining the chances at a bigger inning.  The Cardinals would tie the game in the 7th.  After an out was recorded, Burgess Whitehead singled, then he stole 2nd and reached 3rd on a throwing error from the catcher.  Frankie Frisch then hit a sac fly, scoring him.

Extra innings had a little bit of action, but the Dodgers grounded into 3 double plays in the extra innings (one in each inning).  With 1 out, Rip Collins hit a walk off home run.
