With today's win, the Dodgers have found themselves at .500 for the first time since May 9th. They did it empathically with a 15-1 win today over the Braves at Ebbets Field. Braves starter Ed Brandt has been one of the best pitchers in the league this year, but he was hammered by the Dodgers. Brandt gave up 7 runs in just 1.2 innings of work. On the other side, Van Mungo pitched brilliantly, going 7 innings (he was pulled once the game was out of hand), allowing just 1 earned run, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts. But the story today is obviously the great play by Brooklyn recently with a 4-0 record in August. They finished 15-14 in July.
Lon Koenecke and Tony Cuccinello both had 2 doubles in the game. They combined for 7 RBI's. The Dodgers pounded out 16 hits in total, with 6 starters with multiple hit games. Danny Taylor hit a home run. The Dodgers were a remarkable 8-for-19 with runners in scoring position. The Braves managed 8 hits with 2 going for extra bases. Ownie Carroll came on to pitch the 8th and 9th innings to get extra work and he did well, going 2 innings, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs.
"We are back at .500, I can't believe it," Manager Williams said. "Len Koenecke has been one of the finest players in the league this year, and I love watching him hit. He was our leader today at the top of the order."
