Dodgers beat Braves in 11

It took extra frames, but in the end the Dodgers were able to survive some late inning heroics by Boston to win the game, 7-6, in 11 innings.  The Dodgers had been up 6-1 before Boston scored 5 runs in the 8th inning to force extras.  In the 11th, three consecutive singles by Leslie, Wilson, and Cuccinello resulted in the walk off win for Brooklyn.  Tom Zachary gets the win in relief for Brooklyn, going 3.1 innings and allowing 0 earned runs.  The Dodgers are now 51-52.

The Dodgers got out to a hot start, scoring 4 runs in the opening frame.  After 2 were out, Danny Taylor walked, then Sam Leslie singled, followed by a Hack Wilson single to score Taylor.  Next up was Tony Cuccinello and he hit a high drive to left, that's right a home run to make it 4-1.  But the Braves had their own big inning.  In the 8th, Charlie Perkins was called on to relieve Les Munns (who's pitch count was quite high) and things did not go well.  Wally Berger walked to lead off the inning.  Pinky Whitney singled.  Shanty Hogan then hit a big 3-run home run.  But Boston wasn't done.  Buck Jordan singled, then pinch hitter Dick Gyselman singled.  Pinch hitter Randy Moore then popped out, then pitcher Bob Smith hit into a force out.  Billy Urbanski then hit a big, 2-run double.  Tom Zachary was then called on to finish the game and he did very well.

"I'm proud of Tom Zachary for the effort," Manager Williams said.  "He's got icicles in his veins and I love it."
