Mungo out-duels Dizzy Dean in another gem

What more can be said about Van Mungo this season?  He's been one of the top starters in the game, and today he beat Dizzy Dean to secure the 3-2 Brooklyn win.  Dean went 7 innings before he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the 8th.  He allowed 4 hits, 3 runs (2 earned), 2 walks, 4 strikeouts.  Van Mungo went the distance, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs.  Mungo is now 12-8.

The Dodgers took the lead in the second inning when they scored 2 runs.  After an out was recorded, Tony Cuccinello hit a double.  Joe Stripp flied out, then Al Lopez hit a ball way back to left center for a home run.  The Cardinals would respond in the top of the 3rd.  Ernie Orsatti hit a lead off triple and scored on a Leo Durocher bounce out.  Brooklyn added a run in the 4th.  Joe Stripp led off with a single, then Al Lopez grounded out on the hit and run play.  Mungo hit a sac bunt to put Stripp on 3rd.  Then, with 2 outs, Buzz Boyle hit a routine grounder to short that was muffed by shortstop Leo Durocher.  One run scored.  The Cardinals added a run in the 7th on a Joe Medwick home run.

Van Mungo is now tied for 2nd in the league in wins and 3rrd in ERA.  He's been fabulous.
