Dodgers edge Cardinals, 2-1

Tom Zachary pitched a complete game and Tony Cuccinello hit a big home run, as the Dodgers edged the Cardinals in the opener of the series, 2-1.  Zachary was just a bit better than his counterpart Bill Walker (who went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs).  Zachary allowed just the single earned run when Joe Medwick doubled home a run.

In their last 20 games, the Dodgers are an impressive 13-7.

In the 2nd inning, the Dodgers would score their 2 runs.  Hack Wilson (who owns a 14 game hitting streak) doubled to start off the inning.  Then, after an out was recorded, Tony Cuccinello hit the big 2-run home run.  The Cardinals sole run, as we mentioned, was a Medwick RBI after a Frankie Frisch walk in the 6th.  The Cardinals only had runners in scoring position in 3 at bats and they were not successful in getting a run scored.
