The Cardinals scored the first run of the game in the 2nd inning. After one out, Joe Medwick hit a triple, and was knocked home by Rip Collins. They'd score again in the 4th on an identical play: Medwick tripled with one out and was knocked home by Collins. The Cardinals made it 3-0 in the 7th. After an out was recorded, Jack Rothrock doubled. Frankie Frisch then grounded out, moving the runner to 3rd. Joe Medwick then doubled him home.
But the Dodgers would score 2 in their half of the 7th to make it a 3-2 Cardinals lead. Joe Stripp singled to start the inning, then Tony Cuccinello hit a deep home run to left. The Cardinals then responded. Ernie Orsatti singled, then Leo Durocher singled. After a pop out from Paul Dean, Pepper Martin singled home a run. The Dodgers managed mini rallies in the 8th and 9th (both innings they had runners in scoring position), but failed to produce a run.
