Lombardi cracks 2 home runs in Reds win over Dodgers

Reds catcher Ernie Lombardi brought his "hittin' shoes" to the ballpark today as he hit 2 home runs in a 12-3 rout over the Dodgers.   Outfielder Harlin Pool had a 4-for-5 game with 2 RBI's for the Reds.  Les Munns got the start and picked up the loss for the Dodgers.  He began the game pitching well, but fell apart late, allowing a total of 5 earned runs.

The Reds pulled ahead for good in the 5th inning.  After an out was recorded, Ernie Lombardi hit a home run to tie the game.  Adam Comorosky singled, then Benny Frey reached on an error.  Tony Piet then singled plus an error. scoring 1 run.  Gordon Slade then hit a sacrifice fly to score the third and final run on the inning.

The Reds added 5 runs in the 8th inning.  Ernie Lombardi hit his 2nd home run of the game in that inning.

"Ya' gotta tip your cap to a team who plain beat ya' around the bush," Manager Williams said.  "We win tomorrow and we take 3 of 4 - I'll take that!"
