The score was tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th, Danny Taylor hit a deep home run to left, making it 2-1. But the Reds would respond immediately in the 7th to make it tied again, 2-2. Chick Hafey led off with a single. Harlin Pool grounded out, then Ernie Lombardi reached on an error (runners at the corners at this point). Jimmy Shevlin then singled, plating Hafey. But in the bottom of the 7th, the Dodgers would score 3 and pull ahead 5-2. Joe Stripp walked, then Lopez laid down a sac bunt. Johnny Frederick walked, Buzz Boyle hit into a force play, then Koenecke walked to load the bases. Then, Lonny Frey hit a bases loaded double.
But the Reds would tie it again in the top of the 8th. Alex Kampouris grounded out, then 4 singles in a row by Koenig, Bottomley, Hafey, and Pool led to 2 runs. After a fly out, pinch hitter Art Ruble hit a double, scoring another. But the Dodgers scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 8th. Sam Leslie singled, then Tony Cuccinello hit into a double play. With 2 outs, Joe Stripp doubled, then Al Lopez was given an intentional walk. Pinch hitter Johnny Frederick walked to load the bases. Then Buzz Boyle hit the crucial 2-run single which would be enough to win it. The Reds put up a little threat in the 9th but no runs ended up scoring.
