Dodgers winning streak snapped by Giants, Hubbell

Giants' starter Carl Hubbell pitched a complete game, and Mel Ott hit his 20th home run of the season, as New York defeated Brooklyn today 7-1 at The Polo Grounds.  The Giants never relinquished the lead as they went up 3-0 in the first inning.  Bill Terry extended his hitting streak to 24 games with a very solid 3-hit performance.

In the bottom of the first, after an out was recorded, Hugh Critz doubled.  Bill Terry followed with a single, and then Mel Ott hit a home run.  Hack Wilson hit a home run for the Dodgers in the 2nd, but the Giants would respond again in the 3rd.  Mel Ott hit into an RBI force out after 2 batters had reached on singles.

Travis Jackson hit his 12th home run of the season, a towering shot to straight away center at The Polo Grounds.

Ray Benge, who has pitched so well for the Dodgers this season, was roughed up a bit this game, allowing 6 earned runs in 6 innings.  The Dodgers managed just 5 hits for the game.
