The Dodgers have posted their second 4-game winning streak of the season after completing a 4-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. They outscored the Cubs for the series 28-12. Van Mungo picked up the complete game win today, allowing 11 hits and 2 earned runs. It was Mungo's 11th complete game of the season. He is tied for 1st in the National League with 10 wins and 6th in ERA with a 2.66 mark.
Buzz Boyle, Johnny Frederick, and Len Koenecke, all lefties, had multiple hit games for the Dodgers at the top of the order. Lonny Frey and Sam Leslie rank 4th and 5th in the batting race in the National League. At 32-37, the Dodgers remain in 6th place.
Around the League
- As we approach the halfway point of the season, the Boston Braves are surprisingly in 1st place with a 44-24 record. They own the league's best ERA at 3.34. Both the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates have a superior run differential, but Boston is 11-5 in 1-run games and have been able to squeak by. The Dodgers have a run differential just 19 runs behind Boston.
- Pittsburgh is just 1 game behind Boston. Pittsburgh is still tops in the league with a .310 team average and 401 runs scored. They also have a 3.42 team ERA (which ranks 2nd).
- The New York Giants are perhaps the league's most surprising team. Highly touted coming into the season, the Giants have lost 5 straight and find themselves a sizable 8.5 games back.
