The Dodgers evened the series at The Polo Grounds today, propelled by a decisive 3-run 8th inning, to win the game 5-3. Tom Zachary gets the win in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. Hal Schumacher gets the loss. Joe Stripp had 3 RBI's.
The Dodgers took the lead 1-0 in the first inning as Sam Leslie singled with runners on second and third. But the Giants would tie the game in the 2nd and take the lead in the 3rd. In the 2nd, bases loaded walk to Jo-Jo Moore with 2 outs tied the game. In the 3rd, Bill Terry singled (he extended his hitting streak to 25 games), then Mel Ott tripled him home. After a couple outs and a walk were recorded, Blondy Ryan hit an RBI single.
In the 6th inning, the Dodgers would add to their total. Lonny Frey reached on an error; Len Koenecke lined out; Sam Leslie walked. Johnny Frederick would hit into a force play, and then Joe Stripp hit a big single.
Trailing 3-2 heading into the 8th, Len Koenecke led off the inning with a single. Sam Leslie flied out. Johnny Frederick walked. Joe Stripp then hit a big, 2-run double and reached home on an error. It was all the Dodgers would need to win this one.
