Dodgers win hard fought contest against Giants

In a game which featured 4 different lead changes, the Dodgers came out on top against the rival Giants, 7-6.  The game was tied 5-5 after the 7th, but the Dodgers plated 2 in the 8th.  The Giants would add a run in the 9th but it was a little too little, a little too late.

Les Munns gets the win for Brooklyn.  He pitched the 8th and 9th inning, allowing 1 run.  Boom-Boom Beck started the game for the Dodgers; he allowed 5 earned runs in 6.2 innings.  Joe Bowman got the loss in relief for New York.

Let's take a look at the decisive 7th and 8th innings.  In the top of the 7th New York scored 4.  Hugh Critz led off with a single and reached 2nd on a wild pitch.  Bill Terry then grounded out, runner advanced to 3rd.  Travis Jackson tripled him home, then George Watkins hit 2-run home run.  But the Giants weren't done.  Blondy Ryan singled, then Paul Richards doubled him home.  At this point, the game was 5-3 Giants.  The Dodgers would tie it with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th.  Johnny Frederick singled; Al Lopez singled, Frederick to 3rd on an error.  Joe Stripp hit a sac fly.  After an out was recorded, pinch hitter Hack Wilson hit an RBI single.  At this point the game was 5-5.

In the 8th, Brooklyn would score 2 runs to make it 7-5.  Len Koenecke led off the inning with a single, then Danny Taylor singled.  Leslie walked to load the bases.  Johnny Frederick then hit into an unfortunate 4-2-3 double play, but Al Lopez hit a big 2-run single to put the Dodgers ahead.  The Giants had their first 2 batters reach in the 9th but only ended up with 1 run as the game ended on a double play.
