Dodgers win 6th straight

In a thrilling pitcher's duel at The Polo Grounds, the Dodgers beat their rival Giants, 2-1.  Ray Benge got the start for Brooklyn and he pitched masterfully.  He went the distance, allowed just 2 hits, 1 run, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts.  Besides the home run he allowed to Bill Terry, Benge was dominant and out-pitched Hal Schumacher who got the start for New York.  Pittsburgh lost today, so the Dodgers gain and game, while New York stays 8 games back.

Today's win marks the 6th in a row for Brooklyn.  Joe Stripp got a hit to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

The Dodgers opened the scoring in the 3rd inning.  After 2 were out, Danny Taylor hit a monster home run deep to left field.  The solo shot made it 1-0.  The Dodgers scored again in the 6th.  Len Koenecke walked to start the inning, then Sam Leslie fouled out.  Tony Cuccinello hit a single to put them on the corners.  Joe Stripp then hit an RBI single.  The Giants would make it 2-1 with a Bill Terry home run in the bottom of the 6th.

The Giants made noise in the 8th.  Jo-Jo Moore reached on a Joe Stripp error to start the inning.  Hugh Critz got Moore to 2nd on a sac bunt.  Bill Terry walked.  Then mighty Mel Ott was up to the plate.  Brooklyn had a 56% chance of winning the game before Ott lined out.  Then, Travis Jackson popped out.  The Giants would go quietly in the 9th.
