Tom Zachary went the distance and Sam Leslie finished 3-for-3 as the Dodgers easily took care of the Phillies today, 10-2. Lonny Frey, Len Koenecke, Tony Cuccinello, and Tom Zachary all had multiple hit performances for the Dodgers, who racked up 15 hits total. Zachary allowed 9 hits and just 2 runs (2 earned) over the span of the game, winning his 8th game of the year.
In the 4th inning, Tom Zachary led off with a single. Then, Buzz Boyle walked. Lonny Frey lined out to second, then Danny Taylor flied out to left. But Len Koenecke, with 2 outs, hit a big 2-run double to put the Dodgers up 5-1. The Dodgers had a 3-run inning in the 6th. With 1 out and runners on 1st and 3rd, Tony Cuccinello hit a big RBI single, then Jimmy Jordan hit an RBI single, and then a passed ball led to a 3rd run.
Only the Pittsburgh Pirates have scored more runs this year than Brooklyn.
"We looked a lot better than we did yesterday," Manager Williams said. "I want us to finish strong. Don't look at the standings, just play hard day in and day out."
