Phillies knock off Dodgers, 6-4

The Philadelphia Phillies scored 4 runs in the 6th inning and ended up beating the Dodgers in the opening game of the series.  Euel Moore pitched well for Philadelphia; he went 8.2 innings, allowed 11 hits, 4 runs (3 earned).  He gets the win.  Dutch Leonard gets the loss for Brooklyn.  He allowed 4 earned runs in 6 innings.  Johnny Moore was the hitting star for the Phillies.  He finished 3-for-5 with an RBI.

In that crucial 6th inning, former Dodger Hack Wilson (we love you, Hack!) started out the inning with a ground out.  Then Irv Jeffries singled, then Bucky Walters singled, then finally Euel Moore single to score a run.  He got to second on an error.  After a ground out, Al Todd hit a big 2-run single.  The Phillies would add another run on an error by Jim Bucher.

"I hate to see a loss to the Phillies," Manager Williams said.
