In the decisive third game of the series between Brooklyn and New York at The Polo Grounds, the Dodgers were victorious, 9-2. The Dodgers jumped Giants' starter Fred Fitzsimmons for 6 runs in the 1st inning as the first 6 batters reached to start the game. The Giants would never really threaten Brooklyn in terms of endangering the lead. Both teams had 11 hits, but the Giants left 12 on base while Brooklyn left just 6. There were multiple innings where the Giants had scoring chances but couldn't capitalize. The Dodgers were an impressive 5-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
Sam Leslie finished the game 4-for-5 for Brooklyn (including a double and 3 singles). He is now 4th in the league in hitting with a .359 average. Joe Stripp had another 3-RBI game (his second in 2 games).
"I always love beating the Giants", Manager Mathew Williams said after the game. "I love being at The Polo Grounds; I love the atmosphere and can't wait to continue playing them over the years. It's going to be a fun rivalry."
