Pirates big inning dooms Dodgers

The Dodgers losing streak has reached 10 games.  The Pirates erupted for 6 runs in the 6th inning, coming from behind to beat the Dodgers, 6-2 at Ebbets Field.  Red Lucas picked up the win for Pittsburgh, going 6.2 innings, allowing just 1 earned run.  Ray Benge got the tough luck loss for Brooklyn; he went 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 6 runs (2 earned runs), 2 walks, 0 strikeouts.

A big error was crucial to the Pirates run-scoring in the 6th.  The inning began with ground outs from Red Lucas and Lloyd Waner.  Then, Paul Waner walked and Arky Vaughan singled.  Hot hitting Gus Suhr then doubled in both runners.  Pie Traynor then hit a ground ball to shortstop Lonny Frey who booted the ball, putting runners at 1st and 3rd.  Tom Padden then singled a run home, then Woody Jensen singled another one home.  After an intentional walk to Tommy Thevenow, pitcher Red Lucas, batting for the second time in the inning, singled 2 more runs home.

It was a classic Brooklyn meltdown.  Al Lopez hit his 1st home run of the season in the 9th, but it was 'a little too little, a little too late.'
