Paul Dean, Cardinals take series

Cardinals' starter Paul Dean pitched a complete game, aided by a Joe Medwick home run, and won a 4-2 contest in front of 14,677 at Ebbets Field.  Dean was quite good; he allowed just 7 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), 3 walks, 6 strikeouts.  Boom-Boom Beck took the loss despite pitching well.  He went 8 innings, allowing 2 earned runs.  He was pulled and, of course, the Dodgers bullpen couldn't hold it together.  Ray Lucas gets the loss, allowing 2 runs in the 9th.

That's right the game was tied going into the 9th.  The Cardinals scored 2, here's how: Leo Durocher singled, then Chick Fullis doubled him home.  After a couple of fly outs, Pepper Martin was intentionally walked, then Jack Rothrock singled, scoring the 2nd run.  The Dodgers wouldn't make much noise in the 9th.

The Dodgers have now lost 7 series in a row!
