Dodgers score 5 in the 10th inning and beat the Cardinals, 8-3

It was quite a good game today at Sportsman Park, as it took an extra frame to decide this one.  The game was close for the entire duration until the 10th when 7 consecutive batters reached for Brooklyn.  They'd put up a 5 spot in the 10th, and Van Mungo was dispatched to the mound in the 10th for a 10 inning complete game.  Van Mungo improves to 9-6 and his ERA drops to 2.71.

The Dodgers opened the game with scoring in the 1st inning.  Buzz Boyle singled and after two ground outs, Danny Taylor hit a big RBI double.  But the Cardinals would respond in their half of the inning.  Pepper Martin singled and reached 2nd on a Jack Rothrock ground out.  Frankie Frisch then came up to bat and reached on an error as Buzz Boyle dropped the ball in right.  Joe Medwick (whose 20-game hitting streak ended today) hit a sacrifice fly.

There would be no further scoring until the 6th when the Dodgers took the lead.  Len Koenecke cracked a huge home run beyond the short, right field fence.  The Dodgers would add another in the 7th to make it 3-2.  After an out was recorded, Buzz Boyle hit a home run.  But the Cardinals would respond in their half of the 7th.  Back-to-back singles from Orsatti and Whitehead would eventually lead to 1 run.  The Cardinals would tie it in the 8th.  Frankie Frisch led off the inning with a grounder to short that Lonny Frey booted.  Rip Collins would single him home.

And finally, there was the 5-run 10th inning.  Back-to-back errors had been committed by St. Louis in the inning.  It was an absolute hit parade in the inning, and the Dodgers get the win.
