Dodgers drop a slugfest

In a game that featured more combined runs than any game in the league so far this season, the St. Louis Cardinals were able to pull off the victory over Brooklyn, 17-10.  This game is also tied for the most combined hits in a game this season.  There was so must offense in today's game that it's impossible to recount all the scoring.  Suffice it to say, Brooklyn had the bases loaded numerous times; the Dodgers left 13 runners on base in total.  The Cardinals pounded out 20 hits.

Leo Durocher was among the hitting stars for St. Louis.  He finished 2-for-2 with a home run and 5 RBI's.  Joe Medwick extended his hitting streak with a 4 hit performance.  Every starter in the lineup, except the pitcher's slot, had multiple hits.  For Brooklyn, Lonny Frey finished 4-for-5, Danny Taylor was 3-for-5.

Tom Zachary picks up the loss for the Dodgers.  He was shelled, only going 2 innings and giving up 7 earned runs.  The bullpen didn't fare much better.  Both Smythe an Carroll gave up crooked numbers.  Flint Rhem picks up the win in relief for the Cardinals.

"What an absolute slugfest," Manager Mathew Williams said.  "It was like a bugs bunny cartoon out there.  Each team was rounding the bases like crazy.  It's just too bad we didn't come out with the win in this one."
