The Dodgers began the scoring with 2 in the 1st inning. Three consecutive singles, capped by Sam Leslie's base knock, led to 1 run. A sacrifice fly from Al Lopez led to another. The Cardinals would respond in the bottom of the inning. With 2 outs recorded, Frankie Frisch singled, reached 2nd on an error, and scored on a Rip Collins single. The Dodgers added a run in the 2nd. Jimmy Jordan led off the inning with a single, Ray Benge reached on an error. Buzz Boyle hit into a ground out that scored a run. The Cardinals would respond with 1 of their own in the bottom of the inning. Spud Davis reached on an error, Ernie Orsatti walked, Burgess Whitehead walked. It was bases loaded, 0 outs. Dizzy Dean hit into a double play, but a run would score.
The Dodgers would add to their lead in the 4th. Jimmy Jordan singled and reached second on the throwing error by the shortstop. Ray Benge reached on a 2-base error. Buzz Boyle singled in a run. But the Dodgers would leave 2 on base that inning. At this point it was 4-2 Dodgers.
But the Cardinals would score 3 runs unanswered to win the game. They plated 1 in the 7th when Burgess Whithead hit a leadoff triple and was doubled home by Dizzy Dean. They would score again in the bottom of the 9th off the Dodgers shoddy bullpen. After 2 outs were recorded, Ernie Orsatti walked; he then stole 2nd and got to third on the throwing error by the catcher. Pinch hitter Pat Crawford singled him home.
