In the opening game of a 4-game series at Sportsman Park, the St. Louis Cardinals knocked off the Dodgers, 7-4. The big hitting star for the Cardinals in this game was Ripper Collins, who went 3-for-4 and hit his 13th home run of the year. Also notable is the fact that Joe Medwick extended his hitting streak to 19 games.
The Dodgers left 11 men on base in the game, and could not get enough key hits with runners in scoring position. Nevertheless, they had the lead until the 5th when they'd cough it up.
The big inning for the Cardinals was the 5th when they scored 3 runs. Five straight singles from Frisch, Medwick, Collins, Delancey, and Orsatti were responsible for the scoring. Dutch Leonard, the starter for Brooklyn, only ended up going 6 innings.
Tony Cuccinello was injured in the game and he will miss the next 15 days.
