The Dodgers clinched the 3-game series against the Phillies with an 8-6 win today. It was a dramatic game decided late. In the end, the Dodgers scored 3 in the 9th to pull it off. They began the game with a nice lead but coughed it up before prevailing in the end. Les Munns got the win in relief; Dutch Leonard picked up the save. Joe Stripp was 3-for-4 in the game.
Let's get to the scoring. The Dodgers scored 1 in the 2nd. Hack Wilson began the inning by striking out, then Cuccinello walked. After an out was recorded, Joe Stripp doubled him home. They scored 3 in the 3rd to go up 4-0. Tom Zachary began the inning with a single. Glenn Chapman hit a double, putting runners on 2nd and 3rd. After a fly out, Danny Taylor hit a sacrifice fly. Then, Hack Wilson hit a 2-run home run.
But the Phillies would score 2 in the 4th. Johnny Moore reached on a Lonny Frey error. Don Hurst hit into a force play. Kiddo Davis reached 2nd on the 2-base error by Lonny Frey. Bucky Walters then singled, plating 2 runs. They'd add a run in the 5th when a run scored on a ground out double play. The Dodgers would score in the 6th to make it 5-3. Tony Cuccinello cracked a solo shot. But the Phillies would tie the game with 2 in the 6th. Don Hurst singled. After an out was recorded, Bucky Walters singled. Jimmie Wilson hit into a force play, then Snipe Hansen and Dick Bartell both hit RBI singles.
But the Dodgers would score 3 in the 9th. Al Lopez opened the inning with a single, then Les Munns singled. After a wild pitch, Glenn Chapman would hit a 2-RBI single. Danny Taylor would later hit an RBI fielder's choice. The Phillies scored in the 9th after Lou Chiozza tripled and came home later on a ground out
