Beck pitches gem as Dodgers take opener

Starter Boom-Boom Beck pitched a whale of a game, going the full 9 innings, allowing just 3 hits, 2 runs (0 earned), and picking up the win.  Beck was in command all game, and dropped his ERA to a very strong 2.94.  Lonny Frey hit a home run for the Dodgers.  He finished with 3 RBI's and powered the offense side of the game.

Let's get into the scoring.  The Dodgers plated 1 run in the opening inning.  Lonny Frey hit a solo shot.  But the Braves would score 2 in the 3rd.  After an out was recorded, Bill Urbanski reached on an error.  Les Mallon then grounded out, Urbanski to 2nd.  Hal Lee then singled him home, and Wally Berger doubled Lee home.  But the Dodgers would score 2 in their 3rd and that was all the scoring that took place.  With one out, Boom-Boom Beck singled.  Buzz Boyle flied out.  Koenecke singled, then Lonny Frey doubled them both home.

"Boom-Boom looked strong.  If he can play well for us, it's a big help," said Manager Mathew Williams.  "We've been playing better recently."
