Dodgers find a way to lose another

It took extra innings but the Dodgers found a way to lose -- their 7th in a row -- in front of 17,291 at Sportsman Park in St. Louis.  They were winning going into the bottom of the 9th, but they left the door open for the Cardinals to beat them, 3-2.  In the 9th, Frankie Frisch doubled after an out was recorded, and then Joe Medwick singled him home as Danny Taylor in centerfield let the ball drop in front of him.  In the 10th inning, after an out was recorded, shortstop Leo Durocher singled, and reached second on the error by second baseman Tony Cuccinello.  After a groundout, pinch hitter Pat Crawford singled in the winning run.  It was a combination of poor defense and poor pitching - both a consistent theme over the last couple weeks.

Tex Carleton got the win for the Cardinals.  He pitched 10 innings and allowed just 5 Dodger hits.  He improves to 3-3.  Dodgers manager Mathew Williams pulled his starter, Ray Benge, after 9, despite good pitching on his part.  It was a decision he might be criticized for.  Art Herring was called on in relief and gave up the winning run (although it was unearned).

The Dodgers pulled ahead 2-1 in the 8th.  Pitcher Ray Benge walk, then Lonny Frey hit into a force out.  Buzz Boyle doubled him home.
