Cubs blank Dodgers

In the second game of a 4-game series, the Cubs blanked the Dodgers, 2-0.  Cubs starter Lon Warneke pitched a complete game shutout, going 9 innings, allowing 6 hits, 0 runs (0 earned), 1 walk, and 4 strikeouts.  Buzz Boyle had 2 hits for the Dodgers (a double and triple), but otherwise Warneke, the Hall of Famer, shut the Dodgers down before a large crowd of 48,445.

Van Mungo got the loss for the Dodgers, his first of the season.  He did not pitch badly: 8 innings, 7 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk, 6 strikeouts.  But he gave a big home run up to Babe Herman in the 4th inning.  The Cubs also scored in the 1st when they strung some hits together, capped by Kiki Cuyler's RBI single.

The Dodgers are now 8-9 on the road trip.
