The Dodgers lost their second consecutive series today, knocked around by the Pirates who reeled off 15 runs and 21 hits. The Pirates offense was a force these past two games; they out-hit the Dodgers for the series, 42-36. The Dodgers are now 8-7 on the current road trip. Les Munns, who made a spot start for Brooklyn today, was clubbed: 9 earned runs in 4.2 innings.
The Pirates put up crooked numbers in 5 different innings (they also committed 5 errors in the game, 12 errors total in the 3 game series). They got things going in the first inning, plating 3 runs on 3 hits. Lloyd Waner got things started by drawing a walk. His brother, Paul, sacrifice bunted him to 2nd. Fred Lindstrom singled, scoring a run. Then Arky Vaughan singled to put runners at the corners. Gus Suhr then doubled, plating 2 runs.
Pirates first baseman Gus Suhr had a particularly good series. He was 4-for-5 yesterday and 4-for-6 today. Lloyd Waner finished 4-for-4 in today's game. Arky Vaughan was 6-for-14 in this series with 3 RBI's; he is still leading the batting race at .444.
The Dodgers now hope a train and head to Chicago!
