Fortunes change as Dodgers drop Game 2

Manager Mathew Williams is intent on seeing his team start the season strong; he has emphasized a strong start in a number of interviews.  The Dodgers won the first game of the season yesterday, but they lost today, 7-3 to the Braves.

Dodgers' starter Ownie Carroll simply did not have his stuff in this game.  He went just 3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 4 earned runs to go with 2 walks and 0 strikeouts.  Williams was quick with the hook.  "It was clear to me he wasn't fooling the Boston batters," Williams said.  "I really felt like I needed to act quickly and pull him, so I did.  But Boston never ended up relinquishing the lead and we lost."

The Dodgers were first on the scoreboard, scoring in both the first and second innings.  Danny Taylor doubled in Johnny Frederick in the first.  In the second, Tony Cuccinello hit a sac fly that scored Jimmy Jordan.  Things were looking good at the time, but the Braves answered decisively in the third.  Bill Urbanski started the inning with a home run.  After singles from McManus and Lee, Wally Berger hit a two-run triple.  A single from Buck Jordan scored the fourth and final run on the inning.  Boston would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game.

The Braves produced more traffic on the base paths in the 8th inning.  A two-run single with the bases loaded ultimately produced two more runs.  In the 9th, they added one when Bill Urbanski scored on a McManus double.
