Braves bats were simply too much for the Dodgers in this opening series, as the Brooklynites drop the rubber game, 7-4. The Braves out-hit the Dodgers in the series, 31-23, and out-hit them in the finale 14-5. The cold and rainy weather conditions throughout the series didn't seem to affect the boys from Boston's bats.
The Braves gained the lead for good in the 5th inning, plating 3 runs on 4 hits. After two were out, Marty McManus (who had a big series) singled. Wally Berger then doubled, and Pinky Whitney hit an RBI single. Randy Moore walked, loading the bases. With two outs and the bases loaded Shanty Hogan hit a two-run single.
Boston starter Huck Betts pitched a dominant game. He allowed 2 earned runs in 7.1 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk. He did give up a Tony Cuccinello home run. But really, Betts was quite strong throughout the game and the Dodgers had just 3 hits before the 8th inning.
The Dodgers will welcome the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game series starting tomorrow.
