Dodgers offense powers 16 runs, 20 hits

The Dodgers won a wild game today at the Baker Bowl in Philadelphia, beating the Phillies 16-9.  The 16 runs scored are the most any team has scored in the league thus far this season.  The 25 combined runs also set a league record for this season.  Seven of the nine Dodger hitters had multiple hit games; of mentionable note is Joe Stripp's 5 RBI's.  The Dodgers scored in every inning except the 6th and 9th, and put up 6 runs in the 4th inning.

In that 4th inning, Lonny Frey got things started with a walk.  Next, Danny Taylor and Len Koenecke both walked (the Dodgers had 8 walks for the game).  After a foul out from Sam Leslie, Joe Stripp hit a deep double to the left center field gap.  All 3 runs scored.  Tony Cuccinello then walked, then Al Lopez doubled to bring home Stripp.  After a Babich strikeout, Johnny Frederick hit a 2-run single.

Johnny Babich got the win for Brooklyn.  He didn't pitch great, allowing 7 earned runs in 6.2 innings.  Cy Moore takes the lost for Philadelphia.  He was hammered: 8 earned runs in 3.1 innings.

"Everything was coming up aces today," Manager Williams said.  "We had great team chemistry all game; if we continue to hit like this, we can contend for the division.  I am absolutely intent that we play as hard as we can.  Nobody favored us to win this division, but based on how we hit today, I really believe we have a chance."
