The Dodgers lost the finale of their series to the Phillies today, 5-4. With that loss, the Dodgers split the 4-game series with the Phils. Tom Zachary got the start, and he went the distance for Brooklyn, though he did not pitch particularly well, giving up 5 runs on 10 hits. The hitting star in the game goes to Dino Chiozza of the Phillies who went 3-for-4.
Curt Davis got the start for Philadelphia, and he picks up the win. Euel Moore picked up the save. Brooklyn's Tony Cuccinello hit a 3-run home run in the 1st inning to put the Dodgers up, but the Phillies would chip away. They would score 2 runs in the 2nd inning - the result of 4 singles in the inning. The Phillies would score 3 runs in their 5th inning. Ethan Allen led off the inning with a walk, then Dino Chiozza singled to put runners at the corners. Johnny Moore then doubled to plate a run. Dolph Camilli hit a sacrifice fly, then George Watkins doubled in the final run of the inning. The Dodgers plated a run in the 7th inning after Tony Cuccinello singled with 2 out. The Dodgers went quietly in the 9th.
"Tony [Cuccinello] looked good for us tonight," Manager Mathew Williams said. "We didn't play horribly; we're just not a particularly great team. In close games like this one, the better team can get that extra hit, that extra play that changes everything.
