Medwick, Cardinals hand Dodgers 4th straight loss

It's been a common theme for the Dodgers recently - going ahead with a lead only to give it back.  That happened today at Sportsman's Park as the Cardinals defeated Brooklyn, 5-4, in a walk off win.  Dodger pitching had struggled in the recent series against Cubs; pitching wasn't horrible in this game, but a late inning error led to an unearned run.  Joe Medwick hit his 8th home run of the season.

The Dodgers scored all 4 of their runs in the 1st inning.  Four singles and a couple of errors put Brooklyn in the lead.  But the Cardinals would chip away at that lead.  In the bottom of the 5th, Joe Medwick hit his home run - a two run shot.  And in the bottom of the 9th, Burgess Whitehead hit a slow roller to short, Lonny Frey fielded the ball and threw it away for a 2-base error.  After 2 were out, Joe Medwick singled the winning run home.

Manager Mathew Williams was apoplectic after the game.

"I'm not answering any questions.  I'm getting a little sick and tired of the poor play - particularly on the pitching side but also with errors in the field.  I'm frustrated."

Brooklyn pitching ranks 7th in the league with a 5.21 ERA.  Bullpen ERA also ranks 2nd to last.  If the Dodgers don't want to have a long summer, they'd better wake up.
