Cardinals sweep Dodgers at Sportsman's Park

The tough luck losses continue to pile up for the Dodgers, as they were swept in this weekend's series in St. Louis.  The Dodgers lost the finale 14-8.  Poor pitching had once again plagued the Dodgers.  Starter Ray Benge couldn't make it out of the 3rd inning, and the bullpen allowed 7 runs.  The Cardinals jumped out to an early lead.  Catcher Bill Delancey hit 2 home runs for St. Louis, and Joe Medwick (who was 5-for-12 in the series) finished 2-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

The Dodgers have now lost 6 straight and hold a 2-15 record over their last 17 games.

The Cardinals scored 4 runs in the 1st inning.  Bill Delancey hit a 3-run shot.  The Cardinals then scored runs in each of the following 4 innings.  Joe Medwick hit an RBI double in the 2nd, Frankie Frisch hit a 2-run single in the 3rd.  In the 4th, Bill Delancey hit his 2nd home run.  In the 5th, Terry Moore hit a leadoff triple and would score.  Then, after 2 outs were recorded, Frankie Frisch hit a 2-run home run.

The Cardinals beat up Les Munns in the 8th.  They scored 4 runs on 4 hits to go up 14-1.  Surprisingly, the Dodgers would plate 7 runs in the bottom of the 9th on 6 hits, 2 walks, and a couple of Cardinals errors.

But this was an ugly loss!  On to the next series.
