This was a high-scoring game. The Dodgers got out to an early lead in the 1st as Sam Leslie singled home Lonny Frey. The Reds would score 1 run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Dodgers took a 4-2 lead. Tony Cuccinello led off with a single, then Sam Leslie walked. After a strikeout, Jim Bucher hit a big 2-run triple (Bucher was injured in the game and will miss about a week).
The Dodgers scored 3 in the 6th inning. Van Mungo singled and reached 2nd on an error. Lonny Frey singled. Then after back-to-back ground outs from Stripp and Cuccinello, Sam Leslie was intentionally walked. Then Len Koenecke doubled in the 2 runners. Things were looking good at this point for Brooklyn, but Cincinnati would strike back with a 5-run 7th inning to tie the game. Gilly Campbell singled, then stole 2nd. Lew Riggs walked. Billy Myers lined out, then Ival Goodman walked. With bases loaded, one out, Sammy Byrd singled to score 2. Then, after a fly out, Alex Kampouris hit a crucial, 3-run home run to tie the game.
But fear not, the Dodgers would score 4 runs in the 8th inning and pull ahead. Lonny Frey started off the inning with a ground out, then Joe Stripp reached on an error. After a fly out, Sam Leslie singled to put runners on the corners. Len Koenecke then stepped to the plate and launched a massive, 3-run home run. The Dodgers would add another run in the inning.
The Reds would score 1 in the 9th, but it wasn't enough. Good work by the Dodgers to take care of the lowly Reds.
