Rip Collins smashes 3 home runs in win over Dodgers

Cardinals first baseman Rip Collins launched 3 home runs today in a virtuoso performance against the Dodgers.  Collins hit a solo shot in the 2nd inning, another solo shot in the 3rd inning, and a solo shot in the 8th.  Only Mel Ott has another 3-home run game in the league this year.  His excellent hitting was matched with good starting pitching for the Cardinals.  Paul Dean pitched a complete game for the Cardinals.  He allowed just 4 hits and 1 earned run to go with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

Dodger hits included a double from Tony Cuccinello and three singles from Cucinello, Jordan, and Lopez.  But really, it was Paul Dean who dominated them this game.  The Dodgers had just 3 at bats with runners in scoring position.  Catcher Spud Davis had a 2-hit game for the Cardinals, which included a home run.  The Dodgers scored 1st in the game, but the Cardinals scored 2 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd and never looked back.

"Dean kept our batters off base all game; he kept us off balance," Manager Williams said.  "The Dean brothers are a force to be reckoned with for sure."
