Pirates top Dodgers in 12 innings

It took extra frames, but when it was all said and done, the Pirates came through with a much needed win.  They beat Brooklyn today, 3-2.  The Giants also won their game at The Polo Grounds, which means that there is no movement in the standings.  The Giants remain 6 back.  The Pirates have been struggling recently, so this come-from-behind win is just what they needed.

Both teams were tied after 9.  In the 12th, pitcher Heinie Meine drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Paul Waner stepped in and he doubled, scoring the run.  The Dodgers managed a double in the bottom half of the 9th, but Buzz Boyle ended the game by lining into a double play.  It was a heartbreaker here today because Brooklyn allowed the tying run in the 9th before allowing the losing one in the 12th.  This is a game the team knows they should have won.
