Len Koenecke finished 4-for-5 with 2 home runs in a fantastic performance that helped propel Brooklyn to a 12-10 win at Wrigley Field. Koenecke was simply unstoppable in; his big home run in the 7th inning was a big part of the 7 runs the Dodgers posted that inning. Despite leading 9-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Cubs were able to fight their way back, posting 3 runs in the 7th and 3 runs in the 9th to force extra innings. The home run in the 9th was incredible; Babe Herman hit the 3-run bomb that electrified the crowd. What a great classic game at Wrigley Field today.
The Dodgers won it in the 10th. Jimmy Jordan began the inning with a pop out. Joe Stripp, new in the game, then hit a big triple. Buzz Boyle was next and he launched a big 2-run home run. The Dodgers once again had the Cubs on the ropes. Charlie Grimm grounded out for the Cubs to start their 10th. Then, Tuck Stainback walked. Woody English flied out and Babe Herman, the tying run at the plate, flied out to end the game.
"Boy, I tell ya' I think I see about everything in this game and then I see somethin' new," Manager Williams said. "Ya just gotta keep fighting. I love a game like that!"
